I am replacing the engine on my lawn tractor. The old engine is a 11 HP B&S and it has four wires going to the engine one of which attaches to the block and another to the starter. The new engine is a 14-1/2HP and it has a 4 wire harness connector plus the starter wire. One of these wires from the harness goes to the carburator bowl; the other three go to the engine under the cowling. Can anyone help with where these wires should connect. (both engines are 12V Electric start.
You have a kill swicth wire and battery charging wire with a diode in the middle. That wire coming from the engine goes to your hot wire on the battery through either the switch or direct depending on how your going to hook it up since your interchaning engines from a small to a larger engine.
From underneath that flywheel on your new engine you should have only one wire from each coil if your running a twin engine.
The easiet way to do this is remember that one wire has a ground the other is hot for the charger and another runs to the kill switch and one for a safety switch. You can get confused becasue your jumping from a Briggs 11 to a 14 and that is no problem./ The basic wiring is just like the 11 hp Briggs.
