What is a good 5.25" component speaker set for my car. Criteria: run off 40 watt RMS stock amp AND good base
I have a 2002 Porsche Boxster S that needs door speaker replacement. I want to keep everything simple and stock looking. I need suggestions on some different 5.25" component sets (a 5.25" sub with 0.75" or 1" tweeter). I will be running these new speakers off the stock 4x40 watt amp. I will NOT replace the stock amp so I need suggestions for some good sets which will run off the stock amp. I am particularly looking for good base and low end response as well as the mid/hi frequencies. I want something clear and that doesn't distort when played loud. I don't want them to blow or distort like the stock speakers when I put the volume and bass all the way up. Any help is appreciated since I don't know a whole lot about car audio. I have heard suggestions to use 2 ohm speakers with high db...but that they won't play the bass as well as speakers that are 4 ohm?... i don't know what is what so i just want someone to tell me what to buy and keep my life simple. Thanks guys.
I would recommend Clarion component speakers - specifically SRP1320M. These are very high quality 5.25" speakers and not deathly expensive. They will run fine off your stock amp, they are rated for 60 watts, so you'd have to really try hard to blow them. Seeing as you have a porsche I would assume you are looking for a good quality speaker.
I'm not sure where your getting your information from - 2 ohm and 4 ohm have absolutely nothing to do with bass, also finding a 2 ohm car speaker is near impossible. Most speakers are 4 or 8 ohm, subs are 1, 2 or 4 ohm. Ohms are the unit that measure impedance, impedance is resistance. So in other words the less ohms the less resistance and therefore the louder, less heat and better quality.
Also if you are trying to get big bass out of your speakers you WILL blow them at high levels. Speakers are not designed for bass. If you think about it this speaker is 5.25". The average sub is 12", more then double. The bigger the speaker, the lower the tone. Sorry but no speaker will give you great bass sound (however components are the best way to go as far as sound quality in bass).
