camcorder with night vision?
Ok, we got a new car and where we live we have no garage, its the first time my dad could afford a new car so he is really proud. However I know its not exactly safe and there is no cctv cameras in our area so I want to get a recorder that has night vision and recorders for over six hours... is this impossible?? I dont like the cameras that have to be wired up to tv's etc I want something thats compact and records in itself.
You can purchase digital video recording systems that record to a hard drive on a computer or to a memory card such as the type that goes into a digital camera.
This can be an expensive way of doing things but records to itself.
You'd purchase a DVR (digital video recorder) and the associated camera or cameras. The DVR is alot like a normal tape record except that it records onto a hard disk drive (alot like a Sky plus box).

The cheapest DVR will cost you about £230.00 (British Pounds). Cameras will cost you about £60.00 (British Pounds) each which will include IR (Infra-red nightvision). The range on night vision isn't that great, so you could combine it with a security light.

A recorder system and 2 cameras will set you back about £300.00 (British Pounds).
There are some cheaper systems on the market that record to memory cards available from Argos and other high street retailers. The cameras that connect to VHS video recorders are very cheap, less than 30 pounds but doesn't give you a method of recording except onto VHS tapes using a normal video recorder.
It's probably best if you decide what your budget is and then work towards that, visit some shops and have a demonstration of the systems they can offer you.
