I have a 2003 Cheverolet Silverado and my brake light do not work. I'm positive that it is the ground connection, but where are the stop lights on the bed grounded? Where is the location of the contact to the frame???
-Brake light switch is good - replaced and checked voltage / third brake light on cab works
-Turn signal switch is good - replaced and checked voltage
-Turn signals work on tail which is the same socket as brake
-I have voltage to the junction box under the bed when brakes are applied but not to the socket
-Each side has it's own wiring harness from the junction box to the tail lamps exibiting the same issues.
Generally if you had a bad ground in the taillight assemblies, nothing would work back there including park lights and turn signals. But to answer your question, the ground is usually somewhere within the opening after you remove the taillight assembly, the 8-12 bolts holding the bed to the frame completes the ground. What other causes have you ruled out? It can be a number of things, brake switch at pedal, bad bulb socket or its corroded, bulbs can go bad even though they look OK. Have you checked the contacts on the bottom of the bulb? Short in the headlight switch is another culprit.
