Stereo Upgrade: AMP Question?
I own a 94 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with the Premium Audio JBL system in it. Today I had a change of heart and felt like changing it out.. So I bought a Sony Xplod MEX-BT2500 and a Kicker Solo Barric L7 15" 2000W sub... I know that I need an AMP to top off the upgrade... My friend says I need a 2000W amp to be able to use the Sub.. My question is, could I put in a 1200W Amp and still get the kicker to work? I know it wouldn't be at its peak, but Im not interested in blowing the neighborhood away! Not to mention a 2000W amp cost a lot of $$$...
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
It is a Dual, 4ohm
You sub is rated at a MAX of 2000 watts. If you feed it 2000 real watts, you'll blow it. It's rated at 1000 watts RMS, so you'll need a 1000 watt RMS amp. You can get away with 700-800 watts RMS without any major loss. Just stick to name brands when choosing your amp. The best are all CEA 2006 compliant, meaning that they don't lie about their actual output. You might just want to get a Kicker amp. Kenwood is OK, for being cheap. Rockford has some great amps too. JL is excellent, but a little expensive.
