Are the electrical sockets the same in Barcelona as in India? Any suggestions?
Going to Barcelona for a week from India and I do know that the voltage is the same (220) , but will, for example, my indian cell phone charger fit in the Barcelonian wall socket?
Also, if I must purchase an adapter/transformer, they say that the local ones in Barcelona are of bad quality, and so, it was recommended that I buy an adapter/transformer at the Barcelonian airport itself eventhough it may cost a few more euros? What should I do?

The sockets in Spain are unlike the sockets anyplace else in the world.
Honestly! Even Continental European plugs don't always fit, because they are a different size hole in the wall.
Just get one at the hotel, or, if they haven't got one that has openings in it for YOUR plug, go to the hardware store...they cost about 3, maybe 3.5 Euros. THEY will know what to give you. (bring your charger, too, just in case). The voltage is the same, but the wall outlet is different.
There are hardware stores, usually two to a block. You'll find one. They say "FerreterÃa" over the door, and have...well...hardware in the windows.
There is nothing wrong with the quality of the ones you'll buy there...they are, after all, made for their outlets, and you are more likely to get the correct one there, rather than a continental one.
Just a point of knowledge: An adapter makes it possible to put a foreign plug into the wall.
A transformer is a huge, outdoor place where electricity is stored and exported by the electric company...you aren't going to buy one of those.
A VOLTAGE CONVERTER changes 110 or 120 to 220 voltage...you don't need one of those...they come in many wattages, and you want to have one that is big enough to take care of whatever appliances you have, but you wouldn't need one unless you were going to the Americas, where the voltage is half, and your equipment would never get enough power.
*edit* What warmpole has sent you is an AMERICAN wall socket, of the sort that you actually put into the wall when you are doing construction....completely useless!
