I wanted to show a friend a monument on another campus so she and our other two friends piled in my truck and we set out. When we turned onto the campus main road a cop was standing there, not really paying attention, with his truck hood up. I slowed down, but when he did nothing I drove right on. I saw him get ticked in my rear view and jump in his truck. He pulled us over and asked for license and registration and my friend's ID. I lied and said we were lost and just needed to turn around so he let us go.
This campus is an open campus, so it has no gate or security station like one that would be at a gate. We weren't speeding because we'd just turned. Why were we pulled over and why did he need the passenger's ID?
You didn't say what kind of size truck you have.
It's illegal to have four people in the front seat of any vehicle. It's only made for three at the most. No seat belt for the fourth and there are seat belt laws in place now.
And keep in mind, it is still a "campus" and not really public property like a mall would be.
Maybe the passenger looked like a suspect or acted suspiciously, one just never knows.
