Auxiliary battery and Isolator?
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Stinger SR80 80 Amp Isolator.
In my Setup I have two 80A AGU Fuses with 4 gauge wiring.
This runs from my starting battery through the first fuse under the hood, and my plan was to hook the isolator up in my trunk before my Marine battery. After the marine battery I plan on using a second 80A AGU fuse, then I am going to run the wire into my Memphis 1000D amplifier. Does this sound like the correct configuration?
Also, my second question: Where would I hook up the ignition source? should I run it into my wiring harness using the remote wire or is there a place near the alternator?

A second battery is never a good idea as it's an added strain on the alternator to charge two batteries AND supply power for the car. The ONLY time a second battery is useful is if the audio system is to be used with the car off.
If your total system power is ~1000 watts RMS or more, you will need to:
1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 1/0 AWG wire.
Failure to do this will result in you replacing them anyway as the alternator will eventually fail.

Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is on to one side of a switch. From the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp.
This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car.
