Over the weekend I have installed a LV cable light system from light waves concepts. The quality of the fixtures and the overall kit is great and we're really happy with the look of the lights.The problem is, kit came with a 300 watt magnetic transformer that included a debuzzing coil but even with a 600VA LV magnetic dimmer, the transformer is still quite loud with a hum and buzz. I have tried leviton and cooper magnetic LV dimmers and I have even removed the debuzzing coil from the transformer and relocated it to a covered and hidden Jbox because the coil makes some noise too. That helped a little but the transformer itself is still loud when dimmed and silent when at full power. I'm thinking that I may have to get a remote transformer and hide it in the basement or something to keep the sound away from the living room but before I go to such lengths, does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
I have done alot of low voltage lighting and all transformers make some sort of noise!
Without actually hearing it, I have no way to tell if its normal or louder than it should be.
Go to Home Depot and they do sell 300 watt 12 volt transformers, buy one and then you can compair the noise to the one you got. If its the same, or louder you can take it back to the store.
Personally I would put this in the basement or outside, even with the transformers I have for my lighting putting it in the living room will drive me nuts with the noise!
