I have a GE 30" drop-in electric range with a lift-up porcelain cooktop, model #JDP36BDCT. It came with the house so I have no manual. The oven stopped working. I went to preheat the oven, and it never got hot. Tried again - never got hot. Tried third time and the LCD screen just started flashing when I pushed the buttons. I thought the element burned out, but when I went to take it out I found it was riveted in. Flipped the breaker for the range to try to reset it, still nothing. Thought about unplugging it to reset it, but if flipping the breaker didn't do it why bother? Either way, its built in to the island and I'm not strong enough to pull it up and out. The cooktop works fine and I can set the time and use the up/down buttons (they also control the temp in the oven), but the 3 buttons for the oven (clean, bake and broil) don't work. Can somebody please help me? I simply do NOT have the money for a new oven or a service call - single mom on a budget...
If it doesn't work on bake or broil your problem will not be the element. Most likely is your clock/timer is bad or a burned wire at the main terminal block of the range. I have found burned wires at the block a lot on newer ranges. If you need to replace any terminals make sure to use high temp. terminals and the wire is clean and bright copper or it will fail again. You will need to pull the range out to get to the terminals. Get a friend to help.
