thanks billrus---it would be a sine wave inverter. Would this allow me to keep a constant output as long as the trickle charger feeds the battery as it in turns feeds the inverter?
I'm sure the trickle charger will maintain battery charge when the inverter is attached, but not being used. That's really all trickle charges are designed to do anyway. Pulling the full 600 W, the 12V battery will draw 600/12 = 50 Amps. In addition to meaning you'll have to connect it directly to the battery or through large (6-8 AWG) wires, a (say) 2 Amp trickle charger will not be able to keep up by far. Divide your Amp-hrs rating by 50-2=48 to estimate hours of operation at full power. In reality it will be much less, though, since batteries don't last as long with a high draw.
Also, for each minute of use at 600 W, you'll need 600/2 = 300 plus minutes to recharge. That's not very practical, so a larger charger may be needed.
