what is the different between LCD & TFT monitor and the advantage of these two.
TFT or Thin-film Transistor is an active matrix technology used in practically all modern LCD screens. That is to say LCD and TFT are the same thing.
For purchasing a LCD screen these days, the main things you need to ask yourself is what you want to use it for. There are currently two types of technology that both have PROs and CONs.
1. Screen type #1 ----
Usage: Gaming, fast motion video and general computer use for one or two people.
This technology has been improved to currently provide the fastest response time (no ghosting: which is when it takes time for your screen to update, you can see a 'ghost' of what was there) method emulates 16 million colors so color accuracy would not be as accurate as true 8-bit color.
However emulation has improved greatly over the past year and most people cannot tell the difference. (I can, but most people can't and are more satisfied.)
Viewing angles have also been improved over the past year, but they are still not as good as the other technology.
Technology details: This technology is called TN+Film, or TN, and is generally more economical as well. To recognize it, usually all screens with response times with 8ms or less and state 16.2 million colors instead of 16.7 are TN+Film panels.
2. Screen type #2 ----
Usage: Color-accurate website design/photo editing (e.g. Adobe Photoshop or CAD design), with slower response time but wider viewing angles. Usually more common in business applications.
This technology has the most accurate color viewing and widest viewing angles (to let more people see the screen at the proper colors).
However, this technology is still lacking in the response time department (the quick eye can see visible ghosting in fast action games, such as first person shooter games.) It has improved over the past years, but not as significantly as the competition's technology has improved.
It is less commonly used among the average user.
Technology: Usually a response time of 12ms or higher, colors must be stated as 16.7 million and/or a 8-bit panel. There are actually several competing technologies for this field, and not one in particular. S-IPS and MVA/PVA are the most common.
