How do i know what gauge wire to choose to wire my amp with..?
I've just got an infinity 611a 650W, so how do i know what gauge wire to use..?
I have some run in my car at the moment, but the guy i got it from said its to big and it'll fry the amp
Also, does higher gauge mean it carries more or less current..?

the lower the guage number, the larger the wire, the more current that wire can handle.
having too large of a wire is never a problem unless it doesn't fit in the wire terminal. if your wire is too small it will burn up and possibly cause a fire.
so a 16 guage wire is much smaller than an 8 guage wire, and carries a lot less current.
having too much wire isn't a problem because the amount of current that goes through it depends on how much the alternator has to give, and how much the amp demands. so if your wire can keep up with the current demand, then you don't have a problem.
whoever told you that your wire was too big, just disregard that information.
