Recently our 2005 Saturn Vue driver's side heated seat caught fire and burned a hole through the seat (both top and back pads). The dealer indicated that it shorted out due to moisture. Nothing was spilled on the seats and it has been very cold so no moisture would occur that I am aware of. The fuse didn't blow when the fire occured. Turning off the ignition stopped it from continuing to burn. The car is out of warranty so I am looking into any info I can get. The dealer is looking into a resolution for me at this time, but I still would like to know if moisture really is a possibility.
The fuse should have blown out because the systems electrical for the seat was shorting out so you need to contact not the dealer but the manufacturers customer service department and ask them for the areas zone manager to come out and check this for you.
The dealer can do what is called "GOODWILL" for you and it may not cost you anything just be friendly with them...
