If i set up 2 speakers. pointing directly toward each other. both making the same noise at the same time. Will the sound waves hit as they cross paths and cancel one another to any degree? Or is the same amount of sound sent the same distance in both directions as if i played only one? What is the most effective way to cancel sound via baffles, soft surface, a jagged or smooth surface? with out excessive foam or insulation. and light weight unlike dynamite. do cupped shapes and rounded edges break up sound better than sharp ones? I'm thinking of making my own muffler for a generator it doesn't need to flow for high performance. i just want it quiet, light weight, and to hold up to the heat.
So, you want to use destructive interference, when waves out of phase add up to produce a lesser wave, to your advantage? I guess you could try to split the exhaust then make them come together again in a box of some sort from opposite directions.
There's also diffraction loss, keep it away from walls in an open space.
