What type of crossover do I need?
I am trying to create a system with one Pyramid WX102X 10" White Poly Woofer (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-274) and two Heavy Duty Titanium Super Tweeter TW47 (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=270-135). I have never built my own crossover before but i would very much like to start now. Also, it seems that the tweeters have a built in high pass filter each.
I see problems here:
Two tweeters? Why? Totally unnecessary which leads me to the second point.
This combination of drivers is going to be "tweeter hot." The tweeter is a lot more efficient than the woofer. A few dB is usually not noticeable but 18 certainly is. If you are going to use two that will only make it worse.
Yes that is a capacitor on the tweeter which will act as a 6dB high pass filter. Designing crossovers is tricky at best, requiring a bit of fairly complex math or a software program. I rely on the latter. I'd urge you to at least rethink the tweeters, perhaps in favor of one of the Partsexpress "Classic Series" dome tweeters and buy one of their pre-built crossovers. They aren't bad. If you are determined to build crossovers you should either bone up on the math or buy the speaker design software they sell at PE.
