I have two 6-1/2" 170W kenwood car speakers (model # KFC-1660S) that have been sitting around in my house for a year or two. I have no other practical use for them, so i was wondering if there is any way to convert them into PC speakers. Please be specific and list all of the materials i would need (if this is possible at all). Thanks.
u need to get specs on the speakers then use 12volt.com to plug them in and see whether u should and how- put them into a box- enclosure, probbaly ported. You will need to wire them in series since they're probably 4 ohm speakers. This will create a 2 ohm load. Now figure out how much power your psu gives in watts. If it is not sufficient to match the continuous RMS number, somewhere like 60-100% of the upper continuous RMS wattage (power) to sound decent. If u don't have the power they'll sound like crap. Home speakers and cpu speakers are much more efficient than car audio. Ever see a subwoofer in someone's home? It usually has an internal amp as the receiver/radio can barely dish out enough power to make that sub move.
