I'm setting up a component system in my car so far i have a 10" MTX thunder in the truck, a pair of infinity reference in the rear and im getting a boston acounstics s60 component set for the front, my question is i dont quite get the soundstage. I understand tweeters are for highs and subwoofers for lows but what makes the mids is it the speakers that come in the component set? because i noticed they're called woofers and that confused me. Do i need midrange speakers or are the "woofers" in the component set for that range? thnx in advance
also any tips about tweeking the crossovers or anything else to get the best sound would be greatly appriciated!
Yes, the round speaker in the component set could be called a woofer, a midwoofer, a midbass, etc. Subwoofer is called SUB-woofer because it plays the sub frequencies, the LOWEST. Traditionally a "woofer" Would play a much wider range than a subwoofer. People just have different ways of labeling these things. Its just semantics. You have everything you need.
You will be just fine, as your boston component set will play all frequencies. All you need is a sub, and your components and you are set. Nothing really to tweek with the crossovers, just hook em up and go.
Although, make sure you have a way to cut the bass out from your rear speakers and components. Use whats called the "high pass filter" on your amp. Smaller interior speakers werent designed to play low bass, so cut them off at 80hz or so, they will sound cleaner, handle more power, leave the LOW bass to the sub (thats its job!)
