Tail light quick fix....HELP ME PLEASE?!?
Okay so listen, I have a tail light that will not come on. I had the bulb replaced and it worked for half-a-second, and it went out again. When I brought it back, I was told to take it to the dealer and that it's an electrical problem...
Dealer? YIKES!!
Electrical issue? DOUBLE YIKES....and an expletive for good measure (sh*#!!)
What can I do for a quick fix until I can afford to get it done the RIGHT way? Is there a small light that I can put back there to buy me some time?
I live in a state where cops are very citation happy, and I've received 2 for this issue already....
I know eventually I am going to have to bite the bullet and get the dealer involved....so please don't beat me up....give me advice if you have it on what to do (besides go to the dealer, please...smile).
OK, did you try another bulb? The other one may have burnt out immediately after you installed it. That happens sometimes.
Also, is this a brake light bulb in addition to a tail light bulb? In that case the bulb needs to be a two filament bulb, tail light (dim) and brake light (bright). the two bulbs usually look exactly alike, but the part number will be different for each. Sometimes also, the bulb needs to be twisted in right to left OR left to right in order to work in the right way.
Lastly, if necessary, take the car to a competent mechanic. If it is an electrical problem, it's probably just a burnt out relay, which shouldn't cost too much... plus, it shouldn't cost too much just to diagnose the problem. If the mechanic will just tell you what is wrong, you may be able to fix it yourself or maybe a car knowledgeable friend? Don't go to a dealer unless the car is under warranty. Too, the clerks at most auto supply stores usually can give helpful advice on simple problems like this. Good Luck!
