need technical help to upgrade my car audio system?
Ok so now I want to upgrade my car's old audio. I was able to replace the old stock speakers and head unit, which is fine for a while but now I want to go "stronger". Yes I would like to be heard from the distance but still have clear sound.
should I have two amps? one for 2 subwoofers and another for the other 4 speakers (+ 2 tweeters)? should i use a crossover? capacitor? I've seen diagrams that show "power block", "ground block"??
I've seriously considered doing the "big 3" since my car is very old ('89 camry) and the electrical system has been very tampered with.
Any help or ideas?
can someone also help on:
rms?
pmpo?
ohms?
and what they do or work on a car audio system?
thanks.
I suggest walking into a audio store and hittin up one of their installers, though they tend to try to sell you shit you don't need. I would recommended two amps: 1 four channel for your speakers, and 1 mono/two channel for your sub/subs. Your midrange+tweets package should come with passive crossovers for you. Capacitors are like a band aid, you don't really need one unless you messed something up. Power blocks and ground blocks should come with your amp install wiring kit. As for the big 3, you probably won't notice a difference unless you get very expensive amps and subs that can push a lot of power. RMS is the root mean squared of the power, an easy way to think of it is "average" power. When shopping, installing, or anything else always look at the RMS ratings never the peak power ratings. Ohms is basically a measure of how much of a resistance your speakers provide. Pretty much all amps are 4 ohm stable (and most speakers are 4 ohm), but some can go lower even as low as .5 ohm stable (again these are super expensive, and only professionals should install them). Hope this helps, good luck!
