ok so it always has had hard starts somtimes it turns over 4,5,6,8 times before it will start--but it always has started. today i ran to the store and it fired up like usual and when i tried to leave the store it turned over twice and made this giving up sound is the best i can think of and woulnd turn over no more so id wait and it would turn over but wouldnt continue till it would fire. so the usual culprit for me is bad connection due to acid corrision draw or whatever from the system draining the battery but i had good battery and the terminals were not dirty. is it the starter for sure or could it be bad wires/plugs (the wire to the starter is clean and has no sighns of corosion...or ne thing i really dont know but it sucked being stranded for like 30 min till it finnally decidd to have a really hard start and i came home. killed it when i got here and it fired right up 2 different times so......???any suggestions??
First check the charge and condition of the battery. If the connections are clean and tight, have a load test done, to make sure that the battery is holding a full charge. If the battery is weak replace it.
The starter could be drawing too much amperage, and need to be replaced. A clamp on meter is used on the power wire to test the stater draw.
It sounds to me that the problem is in the battery not having enough power to turn the starter, but without these tests, you can not tell for sure!
