I was trying to run a wire from battery to my trunk where i m trying to install my amp. Its getting real tough for me to pass a thick battery wire all the way from battery to the amp. I was checking my trunk and I found that I have a 12v connection already in my trunk, may be for any cd changers or anything. So, my question is can I use that 12v output to power up amlifier instead of using a wire from battery?
No, you cant use that 12v power in the rear. The cable that is run to it is more than likely 18 gauge and is far too small to run all the current you need. Volts is not the only part of the equation. Think about it like a water pipe. If it is too thin, the water wont get through fast enough, even though you are pushing it the same pressure. Run a minimum of 8 gauge and maybe even a 4 gauge, depending on the power of your amp. Always fuse within 10" of the battery also. Best of luck on routing your wires!
